Nannup & Surrounds

The indigenous Nyoongar people gave Nannup its name before European
settlement. It means 'stopping place' and that became doubly meaningful
when settlers founded a village here in the 1850s, at a crossing point
on the Blackwood River. This is where travellers paused on their
journey and rested their horses and bullocks, as well as their own
cart-rattled bones.
Surrounded by magnificent native forests and rolling green farmlands,
Nannup offers a choice of days filled with activity, or days whiled
away in gentle contemplation. The river hugs the town, offering an
array of water activities and walk trails along the banks, providing
not only peaceful sightseeing, but also superb bird watching.
Other areas of interest include wineries, Old Templemore Antiques shed,
art/craft shops, woodturning studios, chestnut and marron farms,
Barrabup Pool, the Mythic Mazes and Cambray Cheese Factory.
The famous Bibbulmun Track passes by only a short drive away, and there
are many other tracks through the area's lovely forests. The Munda
Biddi bike trail now passes through Nannup, offering cycle enthusiasts
a new route through the jarrah forests.
While our visitors are often pausing en route and unable to linger, we
do recommend you allow at least two days to comfortably explore the
Nannup region and relax.
